Increase Productivity at Work

Blog / July 21, 2023

We heard that you’re wanting to get the most out of your work day. You show up early, drink your coffee, attend meetings, catch up on emails, and before you know it- the day is over. Luckily for you, we’ve compiled this list so you can learn how to increase productivity at work.

To-Do Lists

Let’s start off easy. Everyone has tasks to complete at work. These are some of our favorite ways to keep track of your to-do lists.

Microsoft To Do: Lists are sharable

Sticky Notes: This works great for visual learners, especially for small tasks and reminders.

Planner: Good for running to-do lists on each day and planning out the week.

Legal Pad / Journal: One method we love is to brain dump every single task you have to complete that week. Assign colors to each due date and highlight tasks to complete on the corresponding date.

Stick to a Schedule

Planners work wonders. The key? You have to use them and stick to your schedule. Here are a few options.

Physical Planners: Erin Condren, The Happy Planner, Moleskin Classic Planner

Digital Planners: Solid options for your computer include Microsoft Outlook Calendar or Google Calendar. Tablet and iPad users can’t go wrong with monday.com or choosing from a variety on Etsy.

Time Management

If you’re having trouble making time to complete tasks, try these methods.

Time Blocking: Put time on your calendar to complete tasks. Make sure you follow through by using that time to only work on the designated item.

Pomodoro Timer: This method uses a structure of 25-minute intervals with short breaks of 5-minutes or long breaks of 15 minutes.

Breaks

According to Harvard Business Review, “taking breaks can help employees to recharge and short-circuit the negative spiral of exhaustion and decreasing productivity.”

A short movement break can do wonders! Take a walk around the office or a quick stroll outside for a small mind reset. People often solve problems or have fresh ideas when on a walk.

Work remotely or have a flexible work location? Try working in a local coffee shop or head to a cafe. Working in a different space can bring new ideas or a burst of motivation.

Mindset

Work Life Balance: Do things you are passionate about outside of work. Reawaken hobbies and spend time with loved ones. Focusing on your personal life outside of work will allow you to come to work with a clear mind.

Revisit Goals: Return to your goals from the beginning of the year. Refresh your mindset and get back on track.

Music & Ambient Noise

Some prefer silence to work in, others are more productive with background noise. Classical music can be great for focusing. There are good options on YouTube for ambient noise or instrumental playlists as well.

Podcasts

If you’re looking to spice up your commute or down time, podcasts are a great way to learn new skills. Whether its an educational or motivational podcast, they can give you new insights to bring into your work life. Here are 3 motivational podcasts we suggest.

The 5AM Miracle

Beyond the To Do List

The Marie Forleo Podcast

Books

Reading is another tried and true avenue for learning. Productivity and mindset can be changed with self-help books or motivational reads. We highly recommend these for anyone looking to adopt new habits or improve their lives.

The Mountain is You by Brianna Wiest

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey

Atomic Habits by James Clear

With these strategies and items in your toolbelt, you’re sure to increase productivity at work. Remember that it’s never too late to improve, make a change, or try something new.
